Welding Automation

Dear readers,

Among welding technicians, the name Fronius is synonymous with innovative welding technology. Above all, we are known for providing high-performance, high-tech welding systems. Fronius is also associated with revolutionary welding processes such as Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) and the brand-new DynamicWire wirefeeder. But did you also know that our Fronius Welding Automation supplies automated welding systems from a single source? With the hot topic of this edition of the Weld Informed newsletter, we are resolving welding challenges all over the world—from batch sizes of just one unit to entire series.

Plant construction enjoys a lengthy tradition with us. We have been developing sustainable welding systems packed with future potential since 1975. That’s why the majority of solutions can be upgraded and expanded by adding additional features such as welding processes, sensor technology, and software updates. You’ll find these and many other interesting facts in our latest press release.

Be it a mechanized welding system, robotic welding cell, or overlay welding system—every solution is highly modular and suitable for individual customization. Visit our website to see for yourself.

Austrian company Anton Paar manufactures high-precision measuring instruments for a wide range of industries. A growing shortage of skilled workers and ever-increasing quantities call for intelligent production solutions, so the company invested in a latest-generation robotic welding cell. Our application story reveals all.

The Middle Franconian pioneers of Heizomat Gerätebau + Energiesysteme GmbH have not only invented the automatic feeding of boilers with wood chips, but also produce up to 1,600 environmentally friendly, customized wood chip heating systems every year. In order to cope with the high order numbers, the boilers are welded using modern robotic welding cells from Fronius. But how? Take a look at our second application story to find out.

With SpeedClad 2.0, we are setting new standards in overlay welding. Our further development of the existing TIG hot wire process for surfacing valve bodies in the oil and gas industry is a true innovation and also impressed the American Welding Society, which awarded our SpeedClad 2.0 process the Excellence in Welding Award. Check out our product page to discover the highlights that make our SpeedClad 2.0 so special.

We hope you enjoy this latest issue!

Welding Technology and kinematics form the perfect symbiosis

More than 3,500 installed systems with over 2,000 active customers in 45 different countries speak for themselves. In our Welding Automation, around 150 employees take on and overcome customers’ welding challenges in a facility encompassing more than 11,000 square meters—and they do so with great success.

The task determines the system

Modular system for hard automation and robotic systems, collaborative systems, smart sensors and software solutions for data management, offline programming and simulation open up varied options for welding in metal processing companies for batch sizes as small as one. That is why these days automatic systems prove profitable not only for large companies, but also for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Customer Story | Anton Paar (DE)
Flexibility across the board

Anton Paar’s dedicated research, engineering, and production teams aspire to keep pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Today, the company is a global innovation leader in density and concentration measurement, rheometry, and the analysis of dissolved CO2. The measurement and control specialists set out their requirements for a modern robotic welding system from Fronius, specifying flexibility in terms of the number, shape, and size of the components, their positioning, and in the use of different welding processes.

Customer Story | Heizomat (DE)
Always future-oriented — even during welding

The German family business Heizomat manufactures customized heating systems in outputs ranging from 30 to 990 kW at two sites in Gunzenhausen and Heidenheim. Deliveries are sent all over the world. Today, the company uses three Fronius robotic welding cells to weld boilers. The cells are equipped with the Pathfinder offline programming and simulation software.

We take overlay welding to a whole new level

Unlike the high-speed SpeedClad Twin process, which welds with two electrodes and two filler wires, the new SpeedClad 2.0 overlay welding process requires just one electrode and one filler wire for the same and higher welding speeds. Considerably fewer wear parts and less maintenance work are clear benefits of this process. In addition, the slimmer welding torch allows for the surfacing of small interior diameters of down to just 76 millimeters.
